At ibGuru, we’re reinventing how students learn using AI-native education, adaptive feedback, and now — cognitive mini-games designed to boost memory, speed, and exam performance.
We’re looking for a Cognitive Learning Game Designer who can turn core IB and IGCSE concepts into simple, addictive, high-impact cognitive games (matching, sorting, rapid recall drills, spaced repetition actions, etc.) that integrate seamlessly with our AI learning flow.
This role sits at the intersection of learning science, UX design, and lightweight game mechanics.
Perfect for someone who loves education, enjoys building simple playful systems, and wants to see their work used by thousands of students.
What You’ll Do (Roles & Responsibilities)
1. Design Simple Cognitive Mini Games
•
Convert syllabus concepts (definitions, diagrams, processes, formula recall) into rapid-fire cognitive exercises:
◦
matching games
◦
drag-and-drop classification
◦
flash-recognition
◦
pattern completion
◦
fast decision-making prompts
◦
timed quizzes
•
Design game loops that take 10–30 seconds per round.
2. Apply Learning Science Principles
•
Use cognitive psychology principles such as:
◦
retrieval practice
◦
chunking
◦
dual coding
◦
spaced repetition
◦
working-memory load control
•
Ensure each game supports improved memory retention, not just entertainment.
3. Prototype Using AI Tools
•
Use tools like Figma, tldraw, or AI prototyping tools to quickly mock gameplay.
•
Write prompting instructions for LLMs to generate:
◦
distractors
◦
variations of question elements
◦
multiple rounds of content automatically
4. Build and Maintain Concept Databases
•
Identify key syllabus points that benefit from gamification.
•
Structure data needed to generate game rounds (definition → answer pairs, diagrams → labels, etc.).
•
Work with AI Content engineers to keep content accurate.
5. Collaborate with Developers
•
Work with FE engineers to turn designs into functional components.
•
Provide exact gameplay specs:
◦
scoring logic
◦
timing
◦
difficulty progression
◦
success/fail conditions
6. Test, Iterate, Improve
•
Conduct quick internal playtests.
•
Run A/B tests with small student groups.
•
Optimize gameplay for:
◦
speed
◦
clarity
◦
addictiveness
◦
measurable learning improvement
7. Track Cognitive Performance Metrics
You will define and analyze:
•
time-to-response
•
accuracy rate
•
improvement rate
•
retention across rounds
•
student engagement (repeat plays)
Eligibility
We are looking for talents with a mix of:
•
learning enthusiast
•
game mechanic thinker
•
light UX designer
•
AI-savvy tinkerer
Required:
•
Strong logical and analytical thinking
•
Interest in cognitive science or educational psychology
•
Ability to break concepts into micro-skills
•
Experience with simple prototyping: Figma, diagrams, or even paper sketches
•
Ability to collaborate with an engineering team
•
Love for designing satisfying interactions
Bonus:
•
Experience in game design (even hobby projects)
•
Familiarity with IB / IGCSE / AP syllabi
•
Knowledge of memory techniques
•
Experience working with LLMs
•
Ability to translate academic content into playful mechanics
•
Front-end familiarity (React) a plus but NOT required
